Why I wrote the book
More Than One Person’s Story
Through the Wilderness is not only the story of my journey. It is a collection of stories—mine, those of people I have loved, moments I have witnessed, and lessons God has taught me through all of them. Some poems are deeply personal. Others step into experiences that are not mine alone so the person who has lived them can feel seen and the person who has not can understand with greater compassion.
The journey begins with childlike faith: the trust, purity, curiosity, and wonder we knew before life became complicated. From there, it moves through the wilderness of family, identity, grief, relationships, addiction, healing, and the questions we carry when we cannot see the whole path.
Throughout that journey, Scripture reminds us that people in the Bible wrestled with many of the same emotions we experience today. They questioned, waited, grieved, wandered, failed, trusted, and began again. Their stories remind us that feeling uncertain does not make us faithless—and being human does not disqualify us from being met by God.
I wrote the book so readers could recognize their own hearts within its pages. Here on Poetic Devotions, its poems are paired with Scripture and thoughtful reflections that help us explore those moments together. We are not meant to have every answer or become perfect before taking the next step. We are invited to keep walking and trust that God is already there.
